The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has introduced a new online registration and accreditation portal for:
- Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs)
- Skill Training Centres (STCs)
- Mastercraft Persons (MCPs)
This initiative is designed to standardize technical and vocational education across Nigeria, ensuring high-quality training programs that align with industry standards.
Who Should Register?
NBTE is calling on all vocational training centers, skills development organizations, and experienced artisans to register through the official portal. Successful registration makes them eligible for government funding to train candidates under the TVET program.
Requirements for Accreditation
To be eligible, institutions and individuals must meet certain criteria:
1. Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs)
VEIs are schools that provide specialized vocational training in different trades.
Requirements:
- Must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
- Must use National Skills Qualification (NSQ)-Based Curricula.
- Each trade must have at least one qualified instructor.
- Maintain a 1:40 instructor-to-student ratio.
- Must have a Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA) and an Internal Quality Assurance Manager (IQAM).
- If full-time staff is unavailable, part-time personnel can be engaged.
2. Skill Training Centres (STCs)
STCs provide hands-on skills training in various vocational fields.
Requirements:
- Must be registered with CAC.
- Must adopt the NSQ-Based Curricula.
- Each training program must have a qualified instructor or a skilled artisan with at least an NSQ Level 3 certification.
- Must appoint a QAA and an IQAM. If unavailable, part-time staff can be engaged.
3. Mastercraft Persons (MCPs)
MCPs are experienced artisans who train apprentices in specialized skills such as carpentry, tailoring, plumbing, welding, etc.
Requirements:
- Must have either a CAC registration or a National Identification Number (NIN).
- Must use the NSQ-Based Curricula.
- Should have at least one qualified instructor or an experienced artisan with an NSQ Level 3 certification.
- The training environment must include:
- Workshops
- Restrooms
- Records of past training programs and certifications awarded
