FG Launches TVET Programme to Empower Nigerian Youth with Skills and ₦22,500 Monthly Stipends

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.

The programme aims to equip 5 million young Nigerians with hands-on skills while providing each participant with a monthly stipend of ₦2,500 throughout their training.

Key Features of the TVET Programme

  • Free Education: Enrolled students will receive free tuition, accommodation, and meals in accredited technical colleges.
  • Monthly Stipend: Each participant will receive ₦22,500 every month to help with living expenses and encourage full participation.
  • Comprehensive Training: Youths will be trained in key sectors such as construction, ICT, energy, manufacturing, and the creative industry.
  • Certification and Support: Graduates will earn recognized national certifications, receive starter toolkits, and access low-interest loans through the Bank of Industry.

Nationwide Rollout

The programme will operate in over 400 accredited centers across Nigeria, including all Federal Technical Colleges and at least one state technical college in each of the 36 states. Training will follow the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to ensure relevance and quality.

Transparent and Inclusive Approach

To ensure transparency and avoid mismanagement, stipends and starter packs will be distributed through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) and tied to the National Identification Number (NIN). Special focus will be placed on ensuring participation by women, rural youth, and people with disabilities.

What the Government Is Saying

According to the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the TVET programme is a critical part of Nigeria’s strategy to drive job creation, reduce poverty, and prepare a workforce that can thrive in a competitive economy.

The initiative is also expected to boost local innovation, support small businesses, and position Nigerian youth as key players in the national and global economy.
