The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme. Here´s everything you should know about the Nigeria TVET Program launch.

The programme aims to equip 5 million young Nigerians with hands-on skills while providing each participant with a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 throughout their training.

How to Apply for the FG TVET Programme

Eligible Nigerian youth interested in the FG-TVET Programme can follow these simple steps to submit their application and benefit from the skills training and monthly stipends:

1. Visit the Official Application Portal
Go to https://digitalnbte.nbte.gov.ng/TVET/TVETApplication2

2. Create an Account and Verify Your NIN
Click on the “Apply” button. You will be required to verify your National Identification Number (NIN) and date of birth. Provide a valid phone number and email address to receive confirmation of your registration.

3. Choose Your Training Track
Select either:

  • Short-Term Certificate (STC) – 6 months training, suitable for beginners

  • Vocational Education & Innovation (VEI) – 12 months training for those who already have some skills or prior learning

4. Fill in Your Details
Provide your personal information, educational background, and upload any supporting documents such as your FSLC certificate or proof of informal skills.

5. Select Your Preferred Trade and Training Centre
You can choose from trades such as Electrical Installation, Welding, Fashion Design, ICT, Agriculture, and more. Then select an accredited training centre or a Master Craft Person near you.

6. Submit Your Application
Review all your details carefully before submitting. Make sure to save your User ID, you will need it to log in and track your application status.

7. Await Confirmation
Successful applicants will receive notification by SMS or email. Training is expected to begin between August and September.

Quick Eligibility & Benefits Overview:

  • Who Can Apply: School leavers, unemployed graduates, and informal sector learners

  • Training Duration: 6 or 12 months, depending on the track selected

  • Monthly Stipends: ₦22,500–₦45,000, plus free starter packs and access to BOI loans

Make sure to complete your registration early, as slots may be limited in some states and training centres.

Key Features of the TVET Programme

  • Free Education: Enrolled students will receive free tuition, accommodation, and meals in accredited technical colleges.
  • Monthly Stipend: Each participant will receive ₦22,500 every month to help with living expenses and encourage full participation.
  • Comprehensive Training: Youths will be trained in key sectors such as construction, ICT, energy, manufacturing, and the creative industry.
  • Certification and Support: Graduates will earn recognized national certifications, receive starter toolkits, and access low-interest loans through the Bank of Industry.

Nationwide Rollout

The programme will operate in over 400 accredited centers across Nigeria, including all Federal Technical Colleges and at least one state technical college in each of the 36 states. Training will follow the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) to ensure relevance and quality.

Transparent and Inclusive Approach

To ensure transparency and avoid mismanagement, stipends and starter packs will be distributed through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) and tied to the National Identification Number (NIN). Special focus will be placed on ensuring participation by women, rural youth, and people with disabilities.

What the Government Is Saying about the Nigeria TVET Program launch.

According to the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, the TVET programme is a critical part of Nigeria’s strategy to drive job creation, reduce poverty, and prepare a workforce that can thrive in a competitive economy.

The initiative is also expected to boost local innovation, support small businesses, and position Nigerian youth as key players in the national and global economy.
