Nothing’s more annoying than opening an app on your Android only to have it crash or close out of nowhere. It’s a common problem, especially for cheaper and mid-range phones.

In this guide, I’ll explain the causes of app crashes and provide practical fixes you can try immediately.

1. Why Do Apps Crash on Android?

Here are some of the most Common Causes of App Crashes on Android Devices:

* Outdated App Versions: Applications that haven’t been updated to the latest versions may contain bugs or be incompatible with the current Android system.

* Insufficient Storage Space or RAM: When your phone’s storage is full or the available RAM is low, apps may struggle to function properly, leading to crashes.

* Damaged App Data or Cache: Corrupted app data or cache files can cause unpredictable behavior and crashes within applications.

* Incompatible Updates: Sometimes, new app updates or Android system updates can introduce conflicts that cause crashes.

* Unstable Internet Connection: Many apps rely on a stable internet connection to function. Intermittent or weak connections can lead to crashes, particularly for apps that require real-time data.

* Android Operating System Glitches: Occasionally, glitches or bugs within the Android operating system itself can cause app crashes.

* Presence of Malicious Software: Malicious software or viruses can interfere with normal app operations, leading to crashes and system instability.

* Resource-Intensive Background Processes: Numerous apps running in the background and consuming significant system resources can cause crashes due to the phone’s limited processing power.

    2. How to Fix the Apps Crashing Issue

These are some of the most effective ways for you to fix the problem.

    A. Restart Your Phone

    • A simple restart clears temporary memory and refreshes system processes.
    • Often, this alone fixes random crashes.

    B. Clear App Cache and Data

    1. Go to Settings > Apps.
    2. Select the crashing app.
    3. Tap Storage > Clear Cache.
    4. If it still crashes, tap Clear Data (this resets the app).

    C. Update the App

    • Open Google Play Store.
    • Search for the app and check if an update is available.
    • Updates usually fix bugs causing crashes.

    D. Reinstall the App

    • Uninstall the app.
    • Restart your phone.
    • Reinstall it from the Play Store.

    E. Check Storage Space

    • Low storage can cause instability.
    • Go to Settings > Storage.
    • Free up space by deleting unused apps, videos, or moving files to cloud/SD card.

    F. Update Android System

    • Go to Settings > System > System Update.
    • Install the latest software updates, as they include bug fixes.

    G. Check Internet Connection

    • Some apps (like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok) need a stable internet.
    • Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to test.

    H. Disable Battery Optimization for the App

    1. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization.
    2. Select the crashing app.
    3. Set it to Don’t optimize.

This prevents Android from shutting it down.

    I. Factory Reset (Last Option)

If all else fails and multiple apps keep crashing:

    1. Backup your data.
    2. Go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory data reset.
    3. Restore your phone to factory settings.

    3. When to Seek Help

If only one specific app keeps crashing, contact the developer (via Play Store). If many apps crash even after a reset, it could be a hardware issue time to see a technician.

    To Finalise

App crashes are frustrating, but they can be easily resolved. Clear the cache, update your apps, and make sure your phone has adequate resources. Doing this will restore stability and ensure smooth performance.
