The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially extended the deadline for the completion of 2025 public university admissions to Monday, November 17, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board’s Head of Media, following the approval of the extension by the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede.
Initially, during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, under the supervision of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the deadline for universities to conclude their admissions was fixed for October 31, 2025. The extension, however, became necessary due to what JAMB described as “emergent and compelling circumstances” affecting several institutions.
According to the Board, the decision to shift the date was based on two main reasons. First, the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) appealed for an extension following disruptions caused by various factors, including a recent court order that temporarily affected the 2025/2026 admission list. The court only lifted this restriction on October 28, 2025, leaving universities with little time to finalize admissions.
Secondly, JAMB explained that in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the National Universities Commission (NUC) on October 29, 2025, approved 229 new academic programmes for 37 universities. The Board noted that admissions into these newly accredited programmes are still being scheduled, necessitating more time for processing.
JAMB commended public universities for their dedication and diligence in meeting the earlier target and expressed appreciation for their cooperation. The Board, however, emphasized that the new November 17 deadline is final and must be strictly adhered to by all institutions.
Reaffirming its commitment, JAMB assured that it remains focused on ensuring a transparent, credible, and inclusive admission process that aligns with national education goals and respects institutional autonomy.
The Board also encouraged all universities to make use of the extended window to complete all outstanding admissions in an orderly and fair manner, ensuring that no qualified candidate is left out of the 2025 academic calendar.
