After months of waiting, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has finally started paying corps members the new ₦77,000 monthly allowance. This is a big increase from the previous ₦33,000, which corps members have been receiving for years.
The news of the new allowance first came in September 2024, when the Federal Government approved the increase. However, payments were delayed because the government had to complete all budget approvals. Many corps members were worried, as months passed without any sign of the new payment.
Earlier in March 2025, The New NYSC DG Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu and the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured corps members that the money would be paid starting from March 2025. He explained that the delay was caused by budget processes, but the government was working to sort it out.
Now, with the first payments rolling in, corps members across the country have started receiving their ₦77,000 in their bank accounts.
Apart from the new allowance, the government has also promised to pay corps members the backlog of unpaid months. This means those who have been serving since the announcement may still get the money for the months they were underpaid.
Many corps members have taken to social media to express their excitement and relief. Some posted screenshots of their credit alerts, while others thanked the government for finally fulfilling its promise. However, a few corps members in some states are yet to receive their payment, and they have been advised to be patient as processing continues.

Now that the new allowance has started, corps members are advised to keep checking their bank accounts and report any issues to their NYSC state secretariats. The government has assured that every eligible corps member will receive their full payment.
This increase in allowance is a welcome development, helping corps members cover their expenses better as they serve the nation.
