The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that nearly 380,000 students will re-write their UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) in five South-East states and Lagos.

This is Because something went wrong the first time and the released results for most students are not accurate.

So all the affected candidates will be contacted to reprint their examination slips towards retaking their examinations starting from 16th May, 2025.

What Went Wrong?

When students in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, and Lagos sat for their UTME exams few days ago, many faced serious problems. These issues included:

  • Computers not working properly
  • Errors in their test results
  • Some students couldn’t even finish their exams

Because of these technical problems, JAMB decided it would be unfair to let those results stand. So they’re giving the affected students a second chance to take the exam.

What JAMB Said

JAMB, the board that organizes the UTME, said:

“We’re sorry. The issues weren’t the students’ fault. We want everyone to have a fair chance.”

They also promised that this time, they’ll do everything they can to make sure the exams run smoothly. That means better computers, better supervision, and better planning.

What Should Affected Students Do?

If you’re one of the 379,997 affected students, don’t panic. JAMB will send out new exam dates soon. Keep an eye on:

JAMB says you won’t need to pay again for the re-take — it’s totally free.

Why This Matters

This is a big deal. The UTME is a very important exam that helps students get into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. If something goes wrong, it could affect a student’s future.

That’s why JAMB is trying to fix things quickly and fairly — so no one is left behind just because of a computer error.

Grab the Opportunity

If you’re one of the students getting a re-take, use this extra time wisely:

  • Study a little more
  • Practice with past questions
  • Get plenty of rest before the exam

You’ve got a second chance — and that’s something to be grateful for.

Man Proposes, God Disposes!
It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres out of the 887 centres in the 2025 UTME. This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates scheduled to sit the examination in those centres.
