How to share DSTV subscription with family & friends in Nigeria

In the past few years, DSTV has grown to be one of the biggest cable TV networks in Nigeria. In fact, for many families, the house is never complete without the DSTV installed in their home.

It is possible to share a DSTV subscription in Nigeria. With DSTV, customers can share a subscription between different televisions or devices. However, this can only be done in two methods. Let’s check out them one after the other.

How to share DSTV subscription with family & friends in Nigeria

There are two methods of sharing DSTV subscription among different people. Here are the two methods:

Method 1: Share DSTV Subscription Via DStv XtraView

DSTV XtraView is a feature on DSTV that makes it possible for customers to connect up to three DSTV decoders with a single subscription. It is advised that for families living under the same roof, this feature can be adopted for them.

In this feature, only one decoder acts as the primary decoder on which the subscription is made. Then, the other decoder acts as the secondary decoder which are beneficiaries of the primary decoder. All decoders are the connected using a smart communication cable. With this, all the decoders can now share the same subscription and can watch different channels simultaneously.

Requirements for DSTV XtraView

These are the requirements for DSTV XtraView:

• Two decoders and above must be involved in this process. In fact, it is preferable that a DSTV Explora or HD decoder is used in this process.

• A smart LNB cable setup is used for connecting the decoders together.

• A DSTV satellite dish with good signal connection would be needed.

• An Extra View Access Fee of about ₦3,400/month. Of course, this would be added to the package usually enjoyed per month.

How to share DSTV subscription with family & friends in Nigeria

Method 2: Share DSTV Subscription Via DStv Stream

DSTV Stream is a streaming service provided by DSTV that allows DSTV customers enjoy live TV on their devices. In this method, internet is used to stream contents on the DSTV platform. However, you’ll need to login on your device to use this feature.

Through DSTV Stream, you can register up to 4 devices including your smartphone and laptops. Also, you can stream on 2 devices simultaneously on this DSTV Stream. To use this feature, you’ll need to download the DSTV app on your phone or any other devices you use.

Then, login with your DSTV account details which is usually linked to your SmartCard. Afterwards, you can begin screaming your favorite TV shows.

Tips For Sharing On DSTV Stream

Follow this tips for sharing on DSTV Stream:

1. If you need to share, only share your login credentials with trusted friends or family members to keep your account safe.

2. Don’t share passwords or credentials on group chats or to random individuals.

3. Always remember to change your passwords regularly to prevent unauthorized access and tampering.

Rules and Limitations to Keep in Mind

These are some rules to keep in mind as regards sharing your DSTV subscription with friends and family:

1. It is only possible to stream on 2 devices simultaneously. Even though you have over 2 number of registered devices.

2. Streaming is only available within Nigeria and on devices registered within Nigeria.

3. Depending on the packaging, certain channels especially sports content may not be available on mobile due to licensing agreements.

4. If multiple people use your account and change the password, you could be locked out. Be selective with who you share with.
