Thousands of beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) could soon begin receiving their delayed upkeep allowances after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) announced that discussions with the Fund’s leadership had produced progress toward resolving the payment delays.
The assurance was given by NANS President Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, who said the issues affecting the disbursement of students’ monthly upkeep allowances are being addressed following what he described as a lengthy and productive engagement with NELFUND officials.
In a statement shared on his official X account, Akinteye sought to reassure students that efforts were underway to restore the payment process.
“Following a lengthy and productive engagement with the leadership of NELFUND, I am pleased to assure all Nigerian students that the issues affecting the disbursement of upkeep payments are being resolved.”
According to him, the payment of upkeep allowances will resume once the ongoing resolution process is completed, while every eligible student with outstanding payments will receive the full amount owed.
The NANS president stressed that no beneficiary would lose any outstanding allowance because of the recent delays.
He urged students to remain patient, noting that NELFUND is working to conclude the necessary administrative processes before payments resume.
“We remain committed to ensuring that no student is denied what is rightfully due to them,” he said.

The latest assurance follows an earlier statement by NELFUND on its official X account, where the agency dismissed claims circulating online about the upkeep payment delays, describing some of the reports as false and misleading.
