The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has assured beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme that the payment of upkeep allowances remains on schedule, dismissing reports of a suspension as false.

The clarification comes after a document circulated widely on social media, claiming that upkeep allowances for the 2025/2026 academic session had been suspended. The document, which bore the date July 10 and was attributed to NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, has been identified by the Fund as fake.

According to NELFUND, neither the Federal Government nor the agency has issued any directive halting the payment of upkeep allowances. It stressed that both tuition and upkeep disbursements are continuing for eligible students in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The Fund warned that the viral document did not originate from its office and should not be regarded as an official communication. It urged students and members of the public to verify information through its approved communication channels before sharing or acting on such reports.

NELFUND said the spread of false information has the potential to create unnecessary confusion among beneficiaries and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the smooth implementation of the Student Loan Scheme.

The news was also confirmed through NELFUND’s official X handle in response to reports about the MTN news. The public is advised to disregard unverified information and rely only on official sources for accurate updates.
