To become a teacher in Nigeria, the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) is an important certificate you need in achieving that.

Sometimes, due to the financial constraints on that many may experience, getting this certification could become a problem.

What Is An NCE Program?

The Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) is the minimum qualification required to teach in primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Nigeria.

This certification is usually awarded by the Colleges of Education in Nigeria who are regulated by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).

The NCE program is a 3-year program for full-time students and 4 years for part-time students.

Here are the requirements needed to gain admissions for an NCE Program in Nigeria:

1. O Level Requirements

Aspiring candidates into any College of Education in Nigeria should ensure that they have obtained atleast five O’Level credits in five relevant subjects. These subjects should be areas connected to their intended field of study.

Some colleges may require that students obtain these credit in one sitting while others may require that students obtain these credits in two sittings at maximum. So, look out what the college of education you have in mind really wants and apply accordingly.

2. UTME Score

Generally, colleges of education in Nigeria have a set UTME cutoff mark as 120. However, it has been discovered that many private and state colleges if education admits students with cutoff mark of 100. So, be rest assured once you score a cutoff mark that ranges between 100 – 120 or above, you’ll be admitted.

1. Accreditation

The first thing you need to checkout is your college of education accreditation status. Look up online to see if your college of education is NCCE approved. This is to ensure that you’re appropriately qualified once you graduate.

You want to attend an institution that is close to your home. This way you s save costs of transportation and protect yourself against unexpected hike in basic amenities that may be contained in your home.

3. Reputation

The college of education reputation’s is also important when selecting an institution for your NCE Program. You want to select college with good reputation even in the labour market. As a result, this would give you an edge while in school and after you’ve graduated.

4. Cost of Living

The cost of living around the college area should also be put into consideration when selecting a college of education. To make live easier when studying, it is important that you study at a location where cost of needs such as food, clothing and shelter are cheap.
