The University of Lagos (UNILAG) will begin compulsory UNILAG toxicology screening for students newly admitted into the 2026/2027 session on Monday, October 26, 2026, according to a notice posted on the university’s website on Saturday, October 24. The drug test covers every candidate offered admission through UTME and Direct Entry, and it has to be completed before a fresher can take part in the main admission screening and registration exercise.

Screening runs on weekdays only, from 8:30am to 4pm, at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall on the Akoka campus, and the window closes on Friday, December 18. That gives freshers just under eight weeks, but registration can’t start without the test, so leaving it late only delays everything that follows. The university’s statement described the exercise as “mandatory drug testing as a prerequisite for newly admitted candidates”.

Screening holds Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4pm, at the Jelili Adebisi Omotola Multipurpose Hall, Akoka.

The process starts online, long before you reach Akoka

UNILAG has built the test around booked appointments. You fill a scheduling form linked in the university’s toxicology screening notice, wait for an appointment slip to land in the email address you used, and print it. Payment is handled separately on the Student Portal, where you log in with your JAMB registration number and surname, change your password and complete your biodata before the payment options open up.

UNILAG hasn’t published the fee, so let the portal tell you

The notice doesn’t state how much the test costs, and it doesn’t name a bank account. The amount appears only when you generate the Toxicology Test Payment Advice on your own portal, which is the one place to trust for the figure. Because the notice routes payment through that portal, a request to send money to a personal account, or an offer from someone promising to book you an earlier slot, isn’t part of the process UNILAG has described, so treat it as a red flag.

Keep the payment receipt safe once you’ve paid. The university asks candidates to present proof of payment at the venue, and turning up without it could mean a second trip to Akoka.

Admission letters are still coming, so more freshers will join the queue

The screening opens in the final week JAMB has given public universities to wrap up admissions. The board said in September that the October 31 deadline for public universities to conclude their 2026/2027 admissions “remains sacrosanct”, so UNILAG offers made this week will feed straight into the toxicology queue. If you’ve just been offered a place, accept it on the JAMB portal first, since the screening is meant for admitted candidates. Our guide to what each JAMB admission status now means helps if your portal still looks unclear.

Be wary of anything you can’t trace back to the university or JAMB. JAMB has repeatedly warned against admissions processed outside CAPS, and we explained how to confirm yours in checking an admission offer before you accept it. UNILAG also told students last week to keep up hand hygiene and report symptoms early after the confirmed Ebola case in Abuja, as covered in the advice UNILAG and FUOYE gave students, which is worth remembering in a busy screening hall.

For a UNILAG fresher, the sensible order this week is to accept your offer, complete the scheduling form, finish your biodata and pay through the portal, then print both the slip and the receipt. With those in one envelope, your screening day should be a single visit, and the main registration exercise can follow straight after.
