Federal and state universities have until Saturday, October 31, 2026, to conclude their 2026/2027 admissions on JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), and the board said in a statement on September 28 that the JAMB admission deadline for public universities “remains sacrosanct”. That leaves five days, counting from Monday, October 26, for public universities to push their last offers through CAPS, and for candidates still waiting on one of those schools to keep a close eye on their profile.
The date wasn’t set this month. It came out of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting on May 11, which gave private universities until November 30 and polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and colleges of nursing until December 31. What makes this week different is the warning attached to it, because JAMB said at the policy meeting that any institution that hasn’t finished its admission exercise when its window closes “will no longer have the candidates on its platform on CAPS.”

An offer you don’t accept in four weeks can disappear
Saturday is a deadline for the universities, not for you, but your own clock starts the moment a school approves your admission. JAMB gives candidates a four-week grace period to accept an approved offer on CAPS. If you let it run out, the institution can ask JAMB to delete the admission, and you’ll be placed in the “refusal to accept” category, which JAMB says makes you ineligible to be admitted again.
There will be a grace period of four weeks within which all approved admissions must be accepted by the candidates.
That rule matters most for offers that land this week. Public universities rushing to finish before October 31 will upload large batches in the final days, so an offer could appear on your profile on Thursday or Friday without much warning. Logging in every day or two until Saturday, and again in the week after, is the simplest way to make sure you don’t find out about an approved admission only after its acceptance window has closed.
Your CAPS profile is the only offer that counts
A list on a school noticeboard or a message from someone claiming to know the admissions officer isn’t an admission until it shows on CAPS. JAMB has repeatedly warned against offers processed outside the system, and our guide to verifying an admission offer on CAPS explains what a genuine one looks like. The status you see there is also more detailed than it used to be, as we covered in what JAMB’s new admission status messages mean.
- Log in only through JAMB's official websitejamb.gov.ngUse the email and password on your JAMB profile, and ignore login links sent by strangers.
- Check your admission statusJAMB e-Facility > CAPSRead the current status and note the date you checked it. Menu names can change, so look for the admission status option if yours looks different.
- Accept or reject an approved offerCAPSAct within four weeks of approval, and don't accept an offer you plan to reject later.
- Make sure your O'level results are thereCAPSJAMB told candidates awaiting NECO results to upload or verify them promptly so they can be considered.
- Follow your school's next stepsYour institution's official websiteAfter accepting, complete the school's own screening, fees and registration.
If your results haven’t been uploaded, fix that first. When JAMB restated the deadline in September, it told candidates still waiting on NECO results to upload or verify them right away so that institutions could consider them, and a university can’t offer you a place it can’t see you qualify for.
Missed out at a public university? The other windows are still open
Not getting an offer from a federal or state university by Saturday doesn’t close the year for you. Private universities have until November 30, and polytechnics, colleges of education and colleges of nursing keep admitting until December 31, so those schools are still processing candidates on CAPS. JAMB extended the public universities’ deadline to November 17 in 2025, but nothing similar had been announced for 2026 when we checked, and the board’s September statement gave no hint that it plans to move the date this time.
Universities that are still admitting have been busy with their own requirements too. UNILAG, for example, opened compulsory toxicology screening for its new freshers on October 26, which its admitted candidates must complete before they can register.
For anyone waiting on a public university, this week comes down to three checks: that your O’level results are on CAPS, that you look at your admission status every couple of days until Saturday, and that you accept any approved offer well inside its four-week window. Miss the last one and an offer you waited months for can be wiped from your profile.
