The NECO result 2026 for the June/July Senior School Certificate Examination is out, and 804,948 of the 1,371,992 candidates who sat the exam (58.67%) got five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics. NECO Registrar Professor Dantani Wushishi announced the results on September 24 at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
If you wrote the exam in school this year, your result is already available online, and you’ll need only your registration number and a result token to see it. The steps below take you through the official portal, then explain what the headline figures mean for you and what to do next if you’re chasing admission this session.
How to check your NECO result 2026 on the official portal
NECO only publishes results on its own results portal, so that’s the one address you should type into your browser. Have your NECO examination registration number ready, along with a result-checking token, before you start.
- Go to results.neco.gov.ng on your phone or computer.
- Select 2026 as the examination year.
- Choose SSCE INTERNAL (JUN/JUL) as the examination type if you wrote the exam through your school.
- Enter your token exactly as it was issued, then type in your registration number.
- Click Check my result and wait for your grades to load.
If you don’t have a token yet, use the Purchase token option on the same portal and follow the payment steps there. Token prices and payment options can change, so go by the amount the portal shows you rather than a figure you saw on social media or from a vendor.
Don’t enter your registration number or pay for a token on any site other than results.neco.gov.ng. NECO has warned candidates to be careful with unofficial websites asking for exam details or payment, and lookalike “result checker” pages tend to appear around every release.
Your result isn’t loading? Check these three things first
Most failed checks come down to the wrong examination type, a mistyped registration number or a token that has already been used up. Private candidates who registered for the external exam should pick the matching SSCE EXTERNAL option instead of the internal one, because the internal June/July results won’t show under the external option and the other way round.
If everything looks right and the page still shows nothing, speak to your school’s exam officer or principal before you buy another token. Schools usually hear first when there’s a problem with a centre’s results or a candidate’s registration, and they can take it up with NECO on your behalf.
The 2026 numbers show far fewer malpractice cases than last year
According to NECO, 1,378,048 candidates registered for this year’s exam, which ran from June 15 to July 23 across the 36 states, the FCT and six foreign countries. Marking took place between August 17 and September 4.

The Council put the 64.74% drop in malpractice cases down to “improved examination processes, strengthened monitoring and collaboration”. For you as a candidate, the figure that matters most is the 58.67%, because five credits including English and Mathematics is the baseline most universities, polytechnics and colleges of education ask for.
Got your credits? Here’s what to do before admission closes
A credit on NECO means C6 or better, so count how many C6-and-above grades you have in the five subjects your course requires. If your NECO result covers everything your course needs on its own, you’re in a good place, and if it doesn’t, you may still be able to combine it with a WAEC result, as long as the school you’re applying to accepts two sittings for your course.
Your O’level result also needs to be on your JAMB profile before an institution can process your admission, so get it uploaded as soon as you’ve confirmed your grades. If you already have an offer waiting, remember that JAMB wants candidates to accept or reject admission on CAPS before September 30, which is only days away.
For this week, the safest order is to check your result only on the official portal, save a screenshot or printout of it, and get it onto your JAMB profile early enough that nothing on your side holds up an admission decision.
